Are you a Veteran that is over 30% disabled?
🇺🇸 Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸
Follow these steps to set up your community care.
-
1. Establish services with the V.A.
If you haven’t already, start by enrolling in VA health care at your local VA medical center. This gives you access to primary care, specialty services, and referrals for additional therapies such as massage.
You can apply online at www.va.gov/health-care/how-to-apply or visit your nearest VA facility.
-
2. Contact Primary care physician or specialty doctor about receiving massage for your treatment plan.
Once enrolled, schedule an appointment with your VA primary care provider or specialist.
Let them know you’re interested in massage therapy as part of your care plan especially if you experience chronic pain, limited mobility, or muscular tension related to a medical condition. If your provider agrees that massage therapy could help, they will create a consult or referral to include it in your treatment plan.
-
3. If massage therapist is unavailable at VA, case will be sent to community care.
Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher may qualify for expanded health benefits, including Community Care options when the needed services aren’t available at the VA facility.
This does not automatically guarantee massage therapy coverage, but it helps establish eligibility to receive treatment through a Community Care provider.
Your provider and the VA Community Care office will determine eligibility based on medical necessity, availability, and your treatment plan. -
4. Community care coordinator reaches out to Veteran to ask if they have a preferred vendor
If your local VA facility does not have a massage therapist on staff, your provider’s referral will be sent to the VA Community Care department for review and processing.
-
5. Give them our community care consult ID (UEI)
Once your referral is approved, a VA Community Care Coordinator will reach out to you to confirm your eligibility and ask if you have a preferred provider for massage therapy.
If you’d like to receive care through Fox and the Hands, give the coordinator our Community Care Consult ID (UEI) so they can locate our business in the VA system and issue authorization.

After authorization is complete, Community Care will connect with Fox and the Hands to establish massage referral.
Appointments are typically managed through the VA’s HealthShare Referral Manager (HSRM) or Third-Party Administrator (such as Optum or TriWest).
